Copper Sunset Sparkler
For a Halloween brunch, or the first drink in someone's hand at the door. A spoonful of grenadine drizzled in last sinks through the bubbles and leaves a red band at the bottom of the glass. Made with sparkling cider it is every bit as pretty and everyone can have one.
What you'll need
- 2 oz blood orange juice, chilled (60 ml)
- 4 oz dry sparkling wine or sparkling apple cider, chilled (120 ml)
- 1.5 teaspoons grenadine (7 ml)
- 1.5 cups blood orange juice, chilled (360 ml)
- 1 bottle dry sparkling wine or sparkling apple cider, chilled (750 ml)
- 3 tablespoons grenadine (45 ml)
How to make it
Pour the blood orange juice into a flute.
Tilt the glass and top slowly with the sparkling wine or sparkling cider.
Drizzle the grenadine in last. Do not stir. It is heavier than the rest and settles into a red layer at the bottom.
Glass: Champagne flute. Garnish: A thin twist of orange peel.
Chef's secrets
Regular orange juice works; the drink will be gold and red rather than copper.
Make one glass with wine and one with cider look different: a twist on the wine, a pomegranate seed in the cider.
Good to know
Squeeze and chill the juice the day before. Open the bottle when guests arrive.
