Little Boo Vanilla Shake

A vanilla milkshake is already the right colour for a ghost; all it needs is a face. Paint two eyes and a mouth on the inside of the glass with melted chocolate, chill it so they set, and pour the shake in behind them.

What you'll need

  • 1 oz dark chocolate, melted (30 g)
  • 3 cups vanilla ice cream (about 420 g)
  • 0.75 cup whole milk (180 ml)
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • whipped cream, to top

How to make it

  1. With a small spoon handle or a clean paintbrush, paint two oval eyes and a round mouth in melted chocolate on the inside of each clear glass.

  2. Put the glasses in the freezer for 10 minutes so the chocolate sets hard.

  3. Blend the ice cream, milk and vanilla until just smooth. It should be thick.

  4. Pour the shake gently into the glasses and top with a swirl of whipped cream.

  5. Glass: Clear glasses with straight sides, so the face is easy to paint. Garnish: A swirl of whipped cream for the top of the ghost's head.

Chef's secrets

Make the eyes bigger than you think; they look smaller once the glass is full.

For a crowd, blend in batches of two so the shakes stay thick.
